ABOUT
From the beginning of Leon’s life he always had a passion for music! Even before his teen years his Grandma and Aunts brought him and his Twin brother a record player. They would sneak their Grandma’s records frequently from an old cabinet in the living room. The more their Grandma told them to stop taking her records, the more they did.
For Leon, music was an outlet. He would write songs about his pain as a youngster; however, it was not enough to soothe the pain that had already formed him. Alcohol, drugs and jail became his reality. And things got worse when he lost his Twin brother, Deon.
Leon always had a spiritual foundation in the Lord Jesus Christ. However, he did not receive his spiritual awakening until he was 17 years old. But even then Leon struggled.
To his rescue came a music teacher named Mrs. Duncan. She led him to Christ. She also rescued him by allowing him to use his gift. She set Leon up for an interview to sing with the Edwin Hawkins seminar led by Jackie Ruffin who was one of the Richard Smallwood Singers. Leon also sang in a rehearsal session with Richard Smallwood himself on a couple of occasions. He would go on to make an album with the Salvation Army in which he led 4 of the 11 songs on the album. One of the songs on the album that Leon led was the remake of Deitrick Haddon’s “Sinners Prayer” which he did as a duet with Damien Horne. After this, Leon joined an a capella group of men called The Recovering Angels.
Leon would create songs from nothing in his head with lyrics and instrumentation before he even knew how to play piano. He taught himself how to play the piano as well.
Today, Leon is a man of God with a beautiful wife, Valerie. Leon has a message in his ministry of music: Tired of playin Church. For the saved and unsaved alike.
